From the current status of TCM treatment for lung cancer, the greatest strength of TCM is in assisting the recovery of lung cancer patients. By regulating the imbalance of yin and yang and internal organs of the patient, TCM adjusts the internal environment of the patient’s body and establishes a new state of equilibrium, so that the general condition, digestive system, blood system and immune system of the patient can be protected to a certain extent, and the purpose of long-term survival with tumor can be achieved. After long-term clinical practice and research, China has done a lot of work in combining Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of tumors, and has achieved certain results. In the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer, Chinese medicine is mainly combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted therapy to improve the efficacy, reduce toxic reactions, prolong the survival period and improve the quality of life. Recent clinical and experimental studies have shown that the combination of traditional Chinese medicine with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced lung cancer can increase the efficacy and reduce the toxic side effects, which is conducive to the successful completion of chemotherapy. According to TCM, chemotherapy mainly damages qi and blood, causing liver and kidney deficiency, spleen and stomach dysregulation, and bone marrow involvement. Therefore, treatment should be based on nourishing the qi and blood, strengthening the spleen and stomach, and nourishing the liver and kidney. Chinese medicine believes that radiation is heat toxin, which can harm Yin and Qi. The use of drugs that benefit qi and nourish yin, clear heat and detoxify blood, and activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis in combination with radiotherapy can increase the sensitivity to radiation and reduce the occurrence of radiation pneumonia and fibrosis. In recent years, targeted therapy has been widely used in the treatment of lung cancer and is now recommended as the standard second-line treatment option for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. It can be used in the first line for sensitive people and elderly and frail patients, and has the advantages of good efficacy and less toxic side effects compared with radiotherapy. Used in combination with traditional Chinese medicine, it can further improve patients’ quality of life and reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions such as rash, diarrhea and fatigue.
