The effects of Yin Chen are clearing away heat and dampness (removing heat and dampness from the body), inducing diuresis and relieving jaundice (clearing away bile duct evils and eliminating jaundice). It is mainly used for treating jaundice and itching of skin. Yin Chen is bitter in flavor and slightly cold in nature, and is an important medicine for treating damp-heat jaundice. It can be used in conjunction with Yang jaundice of dampness-heat jaundice or Yin jaundice of cold-dampness stagnation. The treatment of yellow body and eyes, short urine (urine volume, dark yellow color) of Yang Huang often with rhubarb, gardenia, etc.; if the treatment of Yin Huang, can be with the seeds, ginger and other compatibility. Yin Chen can also be used for lower Jiao damp-heat (dampness and heat evil invade the intestines, bladder, pubic area, lower limbs, etc.) itching, summer dampness or damp-warmth (feeling damp-heat caused by temperature disease) and so on. Note that people with blood accumulation and yellowing and people with blood deficiency and yellowing should be cautious; alcohol, greasy and spicy stimulating food are prohibited during the use of the medicine.
