The main manifestations of facial palsy, here is peripheral facial palsy, which is also known as facial neuritis in Western medicine, is that one side of the mouth is lower than the other, one side of the eyes cannot be closed, one side of the mouth is skewed to the other side, the human middle groove is skewed to one side, there is food in one cheek when eating, and you need to use chopsticks to get the food into the teeth. Some people will have watery eyes, some will have dry eyes, some will find that one side of the tongue cannot distinguish the taste ,,,, and so on. These symptoms are often a reminder that you are suffering from facial palsy. Once facial palsy is detected, it is best to use a combination of Chinese and Western medicine to treat it at the same time. The treatment measures for facial palsy during the acute and recovery periods are very critical and important, as they directly affect the recovery of facial palsy symptoms; if proper measures are taken, most people can be completely cured without leaving sequelae; if improper measures are taken, some patients may recover partly but not completely, leaving regrets at the end. For the treatment of facial palsy, I recommend the combined application of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. In the acute stage, pharmacological treatment is a triple therapy of hormone + neurotrophic drugs + microcirculatory improvement drugs, and non-pharmacological treatment is a combination of acupuncture + ear fumigation + electroacupuncture. Acupuncture can be combined with auricular acupuncture + body acupuncture. Body acupuncture is mainly used for acupuncture points on the distal extremities, and my experience is to take fewer points and use manipulation. I generally use the tonic method for acupuncture points on the extremities and the laxative method for acupuncture points on the face, which is very effective. My experience with the acupuncture points on the extremities is Hegu and Quchi on the healthy side, and Waiguan, Houxi, and Suisanli on the affected side. For the face, the acupoints are Di Cang and Ying Xiang. For the electroacupuncture sites, Hegu and Quchi were used as one group; Waiguan and Houxi were used as the other group. For the facial acupuncture points, my experience is not to use electro-acupuncture. Ear fumigation is critical to eliminate edema of the facial nerve in the acute stage and should be used by all people, either by applying the ear fumigation device we produce or by having family members help fumigate the face and behind the ears at home. If the acute phase is handled properly, then the recovery period becomes easier and the condition will quickly progress toward healing. Recovery usually takes about 10 to 14 days. If the acute phase is not properly managed and the symptoms develop more severely, then the recovery period is not so easy. For the recovery period, medication can be reduced to hormonal drugs and other medications continue to be used. Non-pharmacological treatment still recommends the combination of ear fumigation + acupuncture + ear acupuncture. The number of facial acupuncture points should be increased at this stage, and you can add Yangbai, Sibai, Buccal Car, and Catarrh. Depending on the speed of recovery, if the symptoms of poor eye closure are obvious, Zanzhu can be added, and if the symptoms of crookedness of the corners of the mouth to one side are obvious, Chengjiao and Wo s can be added. ear fumigation should continue to be applied and should not be neglected. At this stage of acupuncture, my experience is still to focus on the technique, the distal acupuncture points can be flattened and diarrhea, the facial acupuncture points should still use the diarrhea method. This must not be ignored. There are many patients, the use of acupuncture treatment is not satisfactory reason, and the clinical do not pay attention to the technique of complementary diarrhea and arbitrary use of electroacupuncture has a very direct relationship. As a doctor, the clinic should think and act carefully. A patient who was recently seen in the acupuncture department of another hospital for more than 3 months had an inversion and contracture of the facial expression muscles, which is very regrettable. Facial palsy that is more than 3 months old usually belongs to persistent facial palsy, and there is very little hope for a complete clinical cure with treatment, but there is still hope for improvement of symptoms with treatment. Scattered prick hanging facial acupuncture is an acupuncture method that can be applied in clinical practice. It is beneficial to dispel blood stasis and activate blood, so that the contracted muscles can gradually restore the function of some of the expression muscles. Spaced ginger moxibustion can also be applied in this period.
