Why treatment such as hernia belt is not recommended for pediatric hernia

Often, when a child has an inguinal hernia, parents want to avoid surgery as much as possible, and there is a good wish in the mind that the hernia can heal itself through medication or other non-surgical means. However, for the time being, drugs are not effective and are recognized as such. As for non-surgical treatments, the mainstream is currently topped by hernia belts. However, personally, the use of hernia belts in children is not very recommended. In terms of the pathogenesis of a hernia, it is caused by an unclosed sphincter, i.e., a hole in the groin through which the intestines can run downward. The principle of the hernia belt is to block the hole by means of a plug-like principle on the belt, so that the intestine will not fall down and the hole will heal by itself. However, the problem comes, the principle of this plug, I think we also know, plug not tight, things fall out as usual, useless. Stuffed tight, children’s skin is tender, easy to strangle the skin and tissue. How can just right, this difficulty is big, after all, children will not tell you whether the pressure is just right, so this is the first problem, often leading to the band with, but no effect, but because of blocking the view, easy to ignore the problem of embedded. In addition, because children can not control urination and defecation, so the band is often contaminated by urine and feces, so that it is easy to breed bacteria, leading to skin inflammation, and even long-term skin breakdown, the child suffering. The following group of pictures is a real example of one of our doctors’ own small children. The child developed a hernia at more than 1 month, but always did not want to have surgery, so he used a hernia belt for almost 1 year and eventually still had a surgical solution. However, during this period, the belt caused repeated skin rashes and inflammation in the child, and several instances of impaction during this period, which was not worth the loss and which our doctor regretted. After surgical treatment, it was completely healed.
