How to care for pediatric hernia after surgery and related precautions

After hernia surgery, the child can be taken home after 2 to 3 hours of observation in the hospital. Specific care is as follows: (1) Pay attention to the protection of the wound, especially for infants and young children, and do not let the child scratch off the gauze covering the wound; moreover, do not contaminate the wound by soiling the gauze surface with urine and faeces, causing the wound to become infected and septic. (2) Let the child sleep on his or her side and use a soft cotton diaper folded into a long strip to clip on the perineum. If the right side is operated on, the child should be allowed to lie on the left side so that once he or she urinates, he or she will not urinate on the gauze and contaminate the wound. If the diaper must be pockets, the gauze at the wound should be exposed outside the diaper. (3) The scrotum can be swollen to varying degrees after surgery and will generally subside in 2 to 3 days; if the swelling does not subside and becomes hard, there may be bruising and you should ask your doctor to check it out. If the swelling and hardness no longer develop, the bruising will be absorbed slowly. (4) There will be different degrees of pain in the wound after the anesthetic wears off after surgery, so you should coax or divert the attention of the sick child and try to avoid crying and fussing. Caution 1. Don’t dirty the incision within 2 weeks. 2.After 2 weeks, the incision can be bathed freely. 3.Minimally invasive surgery is usually discharged from the hospital 3 days after surgery, and you can move around freely. 4.Eat water for 6 hours after minimally invasive surgery, and eat normally after 12 hours (no contraindication). 5.The recurrence rate of minimally invasive surgery is extremely low and can be disregarded.
