Advantages of laparoscopy in the treatment of pediatric hernia

With the maturity of minimally invasive technology, it is highly respected for its small trauma, fast recovery and aesthetic appearance. Here we will talk about the advantages of laparoscopy in pediatric hernia treatment: 1. Small wound and cosmetic appearance. Although the traditional surgical incision has been small to less than 1cm to complete the surgery, the laparoscopic incision is even smaller and taken near the umbilical fossa, so the wound is more concealed and after healing, it is as if no surgery has been done without a close look. 2.Smaller damage and avoid separating the spermatic cord, which avoids the risk of scrotal hematoma and testicular atrophy after surgery. 3.Discovery of contralateral occult hernia, which is the biggest advantage over traditional surgery, avoiding re-operation due to recurrence of contralateral hernia. 4.Discovery of intra-abdominal abnormalities. Routine intraoperative examination of the abdominal cavity can reveal disorders such as Meckel’s diverticulum and abdominal cords, and can address these potential dangers. Of course, laparoscopic equipment and anesthesia requirements are high, the operation is more expensive than traditional surgery, and the surgeon needs special training.
