Pediatric surgeons in China used to believe that as children grow up, the gradual strengthening of the abdominal wall tissue can make some inguinal hernias disappear, so it is generally recommended that children within 1 year of age should be treated conservatively and wait until they are 1 year old before surgery, and some advocate surgery at 6-12 months. However, after years of clinical observation by pediatric surgeons nationwide, the probability of such self-healing is very, very small. On the contrary, the chances of paediatric hernia developing intussusception are much higher than those of adults, and even serious consequences such as intestinal necrosis can occur. Therefore, in Europe and the United States, surgical treatment of pediatric inguinal hernia is performed as soon as it is detected to reduce the risk associated with herniorrhaphy, and such a view has been gradually accepted in China. Therefore, depending on the specific situation of surgery and anesthesia in the hospital, early surgical treatment is recommended in the absence of other contraindications.
