The right choice of hernia belt for pediatric hernia

Pediatric hernia, as a common disease in children, causes parents more headache than children within 1 year old because in this group of children, the hernia is often a congenital hernia with a mediocre descending mass that can easily cause impaction and even affect the child’s digestive function and normal development. And most hospitals are often reluctant to operate on children in this group for two reasons: first, children younger than 1 year old have a small chance of self-healing hernia; second, the risk of surgical anesthesia for children younger than 1 year old is also relatively high. Therefore, doctors often advise them to first purchase a hernia belt for palliative care on their own. In the past 2 years, I have constantly found that hernia brings a lot of effects to hernia babies during surgery. I would like to give the following advice to the parents of hernia babies regarding the selection and use of hernia belts: 1. The chance of a hernia belt completely curing a hernia is small, so when parents buy a hernia belt from a pharmacy, they should not believe in the false propaganda of the pharmacy. Especially the propaganda of “Chinese medicine package” and so on to cure the hernia. Parents should first of all make it clear that the main purpose of buying a hernia belt is to keep the lump from coming down as much as possible, to stop it from becoming embedded and not to affect the child’s development, and not to cure the hernia 100%. 2. The hernia belt should not be tied too tightly on the child. I often find in the clinic that some parents tie their children too tightly, which leads to local skin discoloration, rupture and so on, and eventually the hernia is not well tied, but we find during the operation that the severe pressure on the spermatic cord leads to testicular dysplasia, thinning and deformation of the vas deferens, serious adhesion of the hernia sac to the spermatic cord and so on, which makes the operation very difficult. In conclusion, hernia belts can be a palliative treatment option for children under 1 year of age, but it is imperative that they need to be used with caution. It is also necessary to remind parents of hernia babies once again that injection therapy for hernia is a scam, so please do not choose it for the sake of your child’s health and fertility!
