The scientific name for horseshoe is water chestnut, which is sweet in flavor; cold in nature and belongs to the lung, stomach and liver meridians. Water chestnut, from “Daily Use of Materia Medica”, has the effects of clearing heat and cooling blood (relieving blood heat by clearing heat), resolving phlegm, eliminating stagnation and removing cataracts. It is mainly used in treating fever and thirst, cough with phlegm-heat, silicosis, sore throat, stomatitis, scrofula (mainly refers to cervical lymph node tuberculosis), and feverish drenching (burning and stinging pain is obvious when urinating, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort of pulling in the lower abdomen). Caution is advised for those with deficiency of cold and blood. The adverse reactions and contraindications of Water Chestnut are not clear at present. If patients have any discomfort, please go to a regular medical institution; if you need to use Water Chestnut to treat diseases, it must be used under the guidance of a professional doctor.
