What are the symptoms and treatment of gallstones

The symptoms of gallstones are recurrent pain and discomfort in the right upper abdomen, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, especially after eating fatty foods, and a feeling of fullness and discomfort in the abdomen. Patients with bile duct stones may also develop fever and jaundice. If the stones are small, non-surgical treatment with lithotriptic drugs, such as ursodeoxycholic acid, may be used to dissolve the stones, and extracorporeal lithotripters may be used to break the stones, but often the treatment is not very effective. If the stones are large or if there are recurrent symptoms of cholecystitis or cholangitis, surgery needs to be considered.
