Some antipsychotic drug classes during pregnancy
Grade A: No evidence of fetal harm was seen in women in the first trimester of pregnancy in controlled drug studies (and no evidence of harm in the subsequent 6 months), and the effects of this class of drugs on the fetus were minimal.
Grade B: In animal reproduction studies (no controlled studies in pregnant women), no adverse fetal effects of the drug were seen. Or the drugs were found to have side effects in animal reproduction studies, but these side effects were not confirmed in controlled women in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there was no evidence of harm in the following 6 months).
Grade C: Animal studies have demonstrated that the drug is harmful to the fetus (teratogenic or embryonic death, etc.), or there are no controlled studies in pregnant women, or no studies have been performed in pregnant women and animals. This class of drugs should be used only after weighing the benefits to the pregnant woman against the risks to the fetus.
Class D: Drugs for which there is clear evidence of fetal harm in humans, but which are nevertheless of absolute benefit to the pregnant woman (e.g., the drug is used to save the life of a pregnant woman or to treat a serious illness that has not been treated with other safer drugs). or in patients who may become pregnant.
