What is the difference between gingival hyperplasia and gum cancer?

Gingival hyperplasia and gingival cancer have differences in etiology, clinical manifestations and harms, and should be actively consulted when gingival abnormalities occur.
1. Different causes. Gingival hyperplasia is a kind of benign lesion due to incomplete oral cleaning, embedded food, calculus, plaque and other causes of inflammatory hyperplasia of gums. Gingival cancer is a kind of malignant disease, the specific cause is unknown, mostly due to long-term tobacco and alcohol addiction, malnutrition and other factors leading to heterogeneous hyperplasia of gum tissue.
2. Different clinical manifestations. Gingival hyperplasia mainly manifests as bright red gums, swelling and obvious pain. Gingival cancer mainly manifests as deep ulcers that do not heal repeatedly, which may be accompanied by mycotic umbrella-like new organisms without pain.
3. Different effects on human body. Gingival hyperplasia can aggravate plaque adhesion and further aggravate inflammation, and in serious cases, it can involve the alveolar bone, resulting in loosening or loss of teeth and affecting eating and quality of life. Gingival cancer can invade the surrounding tissues, causing restriction of mouth opening, ulceration in oropharynx and even erosion of bone tissues, destruction of bone quality of jawbone and metastasis through lymph.
In daily life, we should pay attention to oral hygiene and healthy diet, and when we find abnormal changes in gums, we suggest to go to stomatology department and cooperate with doctors for examination and treatment, so as to avoid delay in treatment.
