Polycystic i.e. polycystic ovary syndrome, IVF i.e. test tube baby, generally people with polycystic ovary syndrome may need 2-6 months or even longer to do IVF. However, due to the different severity of each patient’s condition, physical condition, and sensitivity to medication, there is variability in the amount of time it takes to do IVF. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine and metabolic disorder. It is usually characterized by the presence of multiple small cystic follicles in the ovaries that do not develop into mature follicles and are not normally expelled, thus affecting conception. For patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, they will need to have a downregulation injection to inhibit the secretion of follicle stimulating hormone before undergoing IVF and then ovulation stimulation. It may take about 2 months for the follicles to develop to a dominant state, and then under ultrasound guidance, the eggs are retrieved and cultured with sperm in vitro to form embryos. If conditions in the 2nd month permit, the first embryos can be transferred, if conditions do not permit, all the embryos can be frozen and transferred after 1-2 months when the menstrual cycle recovers. Therefore, IVF for polycystic ovary syndrome usually takes 2-6 months. However, continuous ovulation promotion has a certain effect on the ovaries. If the ovulation is promoted for 3 months without success, it is recommended to take a rest for about 3 months before proceeding to IVF.
