How Many Months of Exercise After Unicondylar Knee Replacement

Exercise is required for approximately 2 to 3 months after unicondylar knee replacement. Unicondylar knee replacement, because it only performs osteotomy of the medial femur and tibia, as well as replacement of the medial meniscus, does not damage the lateral structures of the knee joint and does not remove the anterior cruciate ligament, it has less damage, less postoperative pain, and allows for better functional exercises of the knee, and the postoperative recovery time is also faster. In the early postoperative period, the quadriceps muscle relaxation and contraction function, straight leg raising and knee flexion and extension training can be carried out in bed for 3 to 5 days, and then get out of bed to walk with the aid of assistive devices, and generally after 2 to 3 weeks, normal walking can be carried out. After another 2 to 3 months of exercise, the normal preoperative activity can be restored. The exercise time after unicondylar knee replacement is about 2~3 months, and the exercise should be carried out under the guidance of physician to avoid injury.
