Patchouli and Perilla are two different herbs.
Patchouli is the above-ground part of the plant Patchouli, family Labiatae. It has the effects of resolving dampness, stopping vomiting and relieving heatstroke. It is used for treating dampness obstructing the middle jiao (dampness obstructing the functions of the spleen and stomach), vomiting, and the first signs of summer dampness or dampness-warmth (warmth caused by feeling dampness and heat). It is not recommended for people with yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire).
Perilla, the stem and leaves of Perilla frutescens, family Labiatae. It has the effects of relieving cold (removing cold from the surface of the muscles), promoting the flow of qi and relaxing the middle, stabilizing the fetus, and relieving the poison of fish and crabs. It is used for treating wind-cold and flu, chest congestion and vomiting due to stagnation of spleen and stomach qi, plum nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal synesthesia) due to depression and phlegm stagnation, and abdominal pain and diarrhea due to poisoning from eating fish and crabs. Caution should be exercised in cases of Yin deficiency, Qi deficiency and warm diseases.
Taking the above medications requires medical supervision.
