Winter tonic misconceptions: chicken soup, lamb soup, beef soup, soup soup hurt the kidneys!

As the temperature drops, more and more friends like to “winter tonic”, so the chicken soup, lamb soup, beef soup, sauerkraut ribs soup and other soup diet is frequently on the table. Each kind of soup boiled for four or five hours, plus wolfberry, angelica, astragalus, that is not healthy and nutritious? However, for the elderly, this method of supplementation is not beneficial or even harmful, because these broths are likely to hurt your kidneys! Studies have found that in the south, especially in Guangdong, the incidence of hyperuricemia, gout and even renal insufficiency is higher than in other regions. The main reason is also in the diet, Cantonese people prefer to make soup, there is nothing they can not put in the pot. Slowly stewed over low heat, boiling for 7-8 hours, they believe that this diet can dissolve all the nutrients in the food into the soup. In fact, duck soup, fatty beef soup, chicken soup, these “meat soup” food, purine content is very high, can increase the burden on the kidneys, and then cause kidney disease. Why is the purine content in broth high? The meat we use in soup, such as chicken legs or beef and lamb, is generally muscle fiber, in the process of making soup, the muscle protein and other nutrients will not enter the soup, while the cells in the muscle will decompose, the nucleus of a large number of purines can instead enter the soup. So it is a misconception that nutrients can be dissolved into the soup when it is made. Not only is the nutrient content of the soup not high, but there are extremely high levels of purines in it. Purines are metabolized to produce uric acid, and the kidneys are an important organ for metabolizing uric acid. Middle-aged and elderly friends themselves have a decline in kidney function, coupled with the increase in uric acid produced after drinking soup, will increase the burden of excretion of the kidneys. Over time, it will cause hyperuricemia, gout, kidney stones, and decreased kidney function. Gout is a disease that seriously endangers human health. Not only is it painful, but some uric acid crystals can also be deposited in joints and other places, causing gout stones or damage to other organs. Does that mean that we can’t drink soup in the future? Of course not, our advice is that we can shorten the time of making soup. In fact, if you make soup for 8 hours, and boil soup for half an hour, the nutrients in soup are almost the same, but the purine content can be much higher. The other thing is to use more vegetables, fruits, eggs and cereals to make soup, these foods produce very little purine and have little impact on health. Also, even if you do make soup, eat more solid foods in the soup and reduce the intake of soup. For those middle-aged and elderly people who already have hyperuricemia or gout, we do not recommend you to drink “broth”.
