Some patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia may present with a runny nose, but this is uncommon and cannot be used to diagnose infection with the virus. The epidemiology of the novel coronavirus is not fully understood, and based on the analysis of available cases, the main symptoms of novel coronavirus infection are fever, malaise, dry cough, and dyspnea. However, some atypical patients may exhibit nasal congestion, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, chest tightness, heartburn, and conjunctivitis. However, none of these symptoms are characteristic and cannot be used as a basis for confirming the diagnosis of the disease. Currently, for patients with a history of exposure and suspected symptoms, it is recommended that CT and routine blood tests be done first, and that the diagnosis be confirmed by further pathogenic testing if the results are consistent with viral pneumonia.
