Drug cataracts

Long-term use of certain drugs or exposure to chemicals can lead to different degrees of lens clouding, i.e., drug and toxic cataract.       Common drugs that can cause cataracts are: 1. glucocorticoids: long-term oral or short-term high-dose application of glucocorticoids can lead to cataracts, and long-term topical eye drops with glucocorticoids can also induce cataracts.

2.Pupil shrinking agents: some pupil shrinking agents such as maohuo yunxiangxin, long-term application can cause cataracts.

3, chlorpromazine: long-term use of a total of 350 grams or more can cause cataracts.

4, drugs that inhibit mitosis: such as the treatment of chronic granulocytic leukemia drugs such as white elimination.

5.Metals: copper, iron, mercury, silver and zinc: have toxic effects on the lens, and long-term exposure to such metals or drugs containing metals can easily cause cataracts.

6, other chemicals: nitro compounds such as dinitrophenol, dinitro-o-cresol and trinitrotoluene (TNT, raw materials for the manufacture of yellow explosives), naphthalene, bupivacaine, thallium preparations, etc.

Treatment: 1. Pay attention to the rational use of medication, such as regular lens examination if you have long-term exposure to some drugs and chemicals that may cause cataracts.

2.If a drug cataract is found, the drug should be discontinued and the contact with chemicals should be disengaged.

3.When the drug cataract obviously affects work and life, cataract surgery should be performed.
