How many years can you live with advanced lung cancer?

The survival time of advanced lung cancer cannot be generalized, but the overall prognosis is poor, and the 5-year survival rate may be less than 20%. The survival time of advanced lung cancer mainly depends on the tumor metastasis, one’s own physical condition, and whether the tumor is treated in a standardized way. For patients with advanced small cell lung cancer, the median survival period is generally 6-12 months. For advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients, the 3-year survival rate is about 5%, while the 5-year survival rate is about 1%. After aggressive treatment, such as integrated chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy, the survival period can be significantly extended, and the 5-year survival rate can now reach 20%. If patients have obvious side effects after radiotherapy or chemotherapy, or are unable to complete the complete treatment, the prognosis is poor and they may survive less than 1 year. Patients with advanced lung cancer should maintain a good state of mind and actively cooperate with treatment, while family members need to pay attention to give patients psychological attention.
