What happens when a pregnant woman is infected with a novel coronavirus

Pregnant women are susceptible to this virus, and the inflammatory emergency response to viral respiratory infections is significantly higher in women during pregnancy, with rapid progression, especially in mid- to late-term pregnancies, which can easily evolve into severe disease, requiring close observation in hospital and timely symptomatic treatment. Novel coronavirus infections in pregnant women occur at all gestational ages and manifest mainly as fever, malaise, dry cough, shortness of breath, normal or reduced total peripheral blood leukocyte count, and reduced lymphocyte count. In some cases, diarrhea is the first manifestation, followed by fever, respiratory symptoms, and viral-like pneumonia on CT of the lungs.
