Rest days after throat polyp surgery

Throat polyps, or vocal fold polyps, require 2-4 weeks of rest after surgical treatment, and speaking should be avoided for 1 month after surgery. Vocal fold polyps usually require surgical treatment under microscopic support laryngoscope, and usually hospitalization for about 1 week. Because the human pronunciation is made by bilateral vocal fold collision, contact and tremor, and the vocal fold needs a process to recover after vocal fold polyp surgery, so 2-4 weeks after surgery is the no-sound period, and patients are required to avoid talking or speak as little as possible to promote vocal fold recovery, in order to prevent the vocal fold from resonating when talking, which will cause vocal fold trauma and local edema, which will easily cause vocal fold polyp recurrence. In addition, it should be noted that the restoration of pronunciation is a gradual process. It is forbidden to shout, sing loudly, cry loudly, and avoid eating spicy and stimulating food too early. After vocal cord polyp surgery, patients need to avoid smoking and drinking for a long time, and avoid prolonged exposure to dusty environment to avoid causing recurrence.
