How soon can I speak after vocal cord polyp surgery

  Usually, speaking should be prohibited within 2 weeks after vocal cord polyp surgery to avoid pulling the vocal cords and aggravating edema, and vocalization can be gradually resumed after 2 weeks, and pronunciation can be fully resumed after 1 month.  If vocal fold polyps appear, usually drug treatment is ineffective, most of them are treated by surgical excision. Currently, laryngoscopic and microscopic excision of vocal fold polyps is usually performed under general anesthesia. After polyp removal, the wound needs to be recovered. Generally, the doctor will restrict the patient’s speech so that the vocal cords can get better rest and avoid vocal cord strain to ensure better wound healing. Usually, the wound can be healed after 2 weeks and the patient can vocalize, but it should be noted that the patient cannot speak for a long time and can only vocalize normally after 1 month.  In addition, patients should pay attention to adjust their living habits after vocal cord polyp surgery to avoid vocal cord fatigue, as well as quit smoking and limit alcohol, pay attention to dietary adjustment, prohibit spicy and stimulating food to avoid the recurrence of vocal cord polyps.
