1. According to the child’s individualized consultation and treatment plan, the child’s parents need to contact the pediatric cataract surgeon one week in advance before the child arrives at the surgery date, and the pediatric cataract surgeon will assist in booking the bed, surgical anesthesia, the chief surgeon and other related matters, and finalize the specific hospitalization and surgery time. (Precautions: Three days before admission, the child needs to use antibiotic eye drops in both eyes in advance and make sure that the child has no symptoms such as fever, cold, cough and runny nose.)
2. On the day of preparation for admission, first of all, the parents of the child should accompany the child to report to the pediatric cataract home, where the pediatric cataract surgeon will determine whether the child’s surgical method and admission arrangements are in accordance with the original treatment plan. (Caution: The child cannot eat breakfast and needs to fast and abstain from food and water for more than 6 hours.)
3. After the hospitalization procedure, the physician and nurse in charge of the inpatient department will arrange for the child’s pre-surgical examination, including fasting blood sampling and other general examination and preoperative examination of the eyes. Pre-operative examination results are usually available in the afternoon of the day of hospitalization. If the examination report is normal, preoperative preparations can be made and the child’s guardian will sign a consent form for surgery. (Fasting and water fasting after 22 o’clock the night before the surgery) 4. On the second day of admission, arrange for general anesthesia surgery to ensure that the child has completed the necessary preoperative preparations (including fasting and water fasting, eye drops with antibiotic eye drops).
5.The child will be sedated by the anesthesiologist before surgery, and the assistant surgeon will wash the eyes and wait for the surgery.
6.After the surgery, when the child is awake, the anesthesiologist will escort the child back to the inpatient department (Note: you need to wait until the child is fully awake before giving the child water and liquid food; after the child is awake, the child is often irritable due to the dressing covering both eyes.)
7.On the first day after surgery, the physician in charge of the inpatient department will remove the dressing for the child and conduct relevant examinations to confirm whether the child can be discharged from the hospital.
8.On the day of discharge, the child should bring the relevant information for discharge to the pediatric cataract home for registration of relevant conditions, and the pediatric cataract surgeon will arrange the necessary post-operative adherence items and make appointments for follow-up consultation according to the child’s treatment plan.
9.After the child goes home, parents need to pay close attention to and protect the child’s eye condition and apply eye drops and eye ointment to the child in strict accordance with the post-operative physician’s requirements, and contact the pediatric cataract physician in time if there are any special circumstances.
10. The child needs to return to the pediatric cataract home on time for a review according to the time already booked.
