About pediatric hernia (inguinal hernia)

  1. How is a pediatric hernia formed? Simply put: (1) During development, the testes are behind the peritoneum (simply understand that the testes are in the child’s stomach). As the testes develop, the inner ring mouth will close when the testes enter the scrotum through the “inner ring mouth” from behind the peritoneum. (2) When the internal ring mouth is not closed and the abdominal pressure increases due to crying, long-term coughing and constipation, the abdominal contents protrude into the groin or scrotum through the unclosed internal ring mouth and a hernia is formed. 2. Is pediatric hernia congenital? Families who visit the clinic ask: Our child’s hernia was discovered after birth, not right after birth. So is pediatric hernia congenital? In fact, pediatric hernia is a congenital disease mainly caused by the failure to close the “inner ring”. The reason why a hernia does not appear at birth is mainly because the caliber of the unclosed inner ring is small and the pressure in the abdominal cavity is not high, so the abdominal contents do not pass through the inner ring, so a hernia does not form. As the child grows up, when the intra-abdominal pressure is high enough, the abdominal contents will protrude through the unclosed internal orifice and form a hernia.
