Since pupae are generally high in protein, it is very common to have itching symptoms if they are consumed. This is because protein can easily induce peptic urticaria in humans. Therefore, when itching occurs, anti-allergy treatment is needed, usually with oral antihistamines. Most can take oral levocetirizine hydrochloride, or epalrestine, loratadine, etc. If the allergy is severe, sometimes glucocorticoid drugs may be needed, mostly oral dexamethasone or prednisone. If the inflammatory reaction or allergic symptoms involve the visceral system, including respiratory distress and other symptoms, intravenous hormone drugs are required, usually hydrocortisone or dexamethasone can be administered intravenously.
