The advantages of neoadjuvant chemotherapy are that it can lower the stage and kill cancer cells; the disadvantages are that it can damage normal cells and may lead to the enlargement of lesions.
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, i.e. preoperative chemotherapy, has the advantage of lowering the stage, through which it can effectively reduce the size of the tumor, lower the stage of the patient, and reach the target of surgery. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy can also kill the cancer cells in time when they have just metastasized and spread, thus improving the treatment rate.
The disadvantage of neoadjuvant chemotherapy is that it has the same toxic side effects as normal chemotherapy, which will damage normal cells and lead to bone marrow suppression, liver and kidney function damage, digestive symptoms, etc.; at the same time, it may be ineffective, which will delay the patient’s condition and make him/her miss more treatment opportunities.
It is recommended that patients choose the appropriate treatment method according to their own conditions under the guidance of their doctors and take active treatment to avoid delaying their conditions.
