The common causes of heel pain are physiologic and pathologic. Physiological causes are commonly found in over exertion, strenuous exercise, etc. Pathological causes are mostly found in metatarsophalangeal fasciitis, atrophy of the heel fat pad, trauma, tumors and so on. 1. Overexertion, strenuous exercise: After long walking and strenuous exercise, heel pain may occur and can be gradually relieved after rest. 2. Metatarsal fasciitis: aseptic inflammation of local soft tissues, mostly occurring after chronic strain or sports damage, and can be relieved after rest and hot compresses. 3. Heel fat pad atrophy: the heel fat pad is an adipose fibrous tissue that prevents sliding or reduces shock. With the increase of age, the heel fat fiber cushion shrinks, and its buffering effect on pressure and movement will be reduced, so the movement or increased pressure will produce pain. 4. Trauma: when the heel is not fully repaired by trauma, it can produce pain when walking or bearing weight, so when the heel is traumatized, it must be rested, braked, and reduce weight bearing to promote wound healing. 5. Tumor: such as osteoblastic tumor of the heel bone, when walking or bearing weight, pain occurs due to pressure, relevant examination such as CT should be done, and then surgical treatment should be given. There may be other reasons for heel pain, and when it is serious, it may affect normal walking, so you should go to the hospital in time and do relevant examination, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment, do not take any action without authorization, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
