There is no Eight Gentlemen Soup. The correct ones are Si Jun Zi Tang and Liu Jun Zi Tang. The former has the effect of benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen, treating spleen and stomach qi deficiency; the latter also has the effect of drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm), treating spleen deficiency with phlegm-dampness.
Si Jun Zi Tang is composed of Atractylodes Macrocephalae, Poria, Ginseng and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, which has the effect of benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen and stomach, and is used to treat weakness of the limbs, decrease in appetite, loose stools, and a pale complexion caused by the syndrome of qi deficiency of the spleen and stomach.
Six Gentlemen Soup is composed of Chen Pi, Pinellia, Poria, Licorice, Ginseng and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, which can benefit qi and strengthen the spleen, dry dampness and resolve phlegm, and can treat shortness of breath and weakness caused by deficiency of the spleen and phlegm-dampness, loose stools, nausea and vomiting, coughing and phlegm with a whitish color, and fullness of the chest and diaphragm.
