What to do if your child has an earache

Ear pain, one of the main reasons for children to visit otolaryngology, is a common symptom in otolaryngology. There are more causes of ear pain in children, mainly ear pain caused by inflammation. Children or adults often like to dig their ears, causing damage to the skin of the external ear canal and causing ear pain secondary to bacterial infection causing boils in the external ear canal; or when swimming, the pool water is dirty and causes acute otitis externa causing ear pain; ear pain caused by both of these causes needs to be treated with sensitive antibiotics and water in the ear is prohibited. Foreign bodies in the external ear canal that cause infection causing pain need to be removed by an otolaryngologist and treated with anti-infective therapy. Herpetic tympanitis causing ear disease requires antiviral treatment to avoid secondary bacterial infection. If it is caused by acute purulent otitis media, it needs to be seen by an otolaryngologist as soon as possible and treated with sensitive and adequate antibiotics as soon as possible under the doctor’s guidance to avoid perforation of the eardrum; or after perforation of the eardrum, the infection should be controlled as soon as possible to avoid developing chronic otitis media that cannot be cured and affects hearing. The ear is a very important organ to protect. You should not let anyone other than an otolaryngologist to pull out your ears to avoid damaging them and causing deafness to occur.
