Appendicitis ultrasound presentation

Ultrasound manifestations of appendicitis are as follows: significant thickening of the echogenicity of the wall, blurring of the wall hierarchy, and long tubular hypoechoic areas with peripheral irregularities. In severe cases of appendicitis, the normal structure of the appendix disappears and there is a surrounding inhomogeneous hypoechoic zone. If appendiceal perforation is present, there will be disruption of appendiceal wall continuity, gas hypoechogenicity seen in the lumen, and clusters of strong echogenicity and acoustic shadowing are visible. Appendicitis produces severe abdominal pain and the treatment for appendicitis is surgical removal. There are two types of surgery: traditional open surgery and laparoscopic appendectomy, and if possible, laparoscopic appendectomy can be chosen for less trauma and faster recovery.
