Leukemia patients can have abnormally high, normal, or diminished white blood cells. The reference range for leukocytes is (4.0-10.0)x10^9/L, hemoglobin is 110-150 g/L for women and 120-160 g/L for men, and the normal reference range for platelets is (100-300)x10^9/L. Patients with leukemia will have abnormalities in leukocytes, hemoglobin, and platelets, usually manifesting as an abnormally high leukocyte, decreased hemoglobin, and decreased platelets. However, some patients with leukemia may have normal or reduced white blood cells, accompanied by decreased hemoglobin and platelets.
