If a two-year-old child has a stuffy nose at night, he or she should be checked for rhinitis or adenoid hypertrophy. If it is rhinitis, the diagnosis can be made clearly with a look at the anterior rhinoscope; if it is adenoid hypertrophy, the diagnosis needs to be confirmed by lateral nasopharyngeal film or nasal endoscopy. If it is a simple rhinitis, clinical treatment can be oral nasal abdomen and orthodontic pellets, as well as Oronema drops and nasal spray, but if it is adenoid hypertrophy, clinical treatment can be conservative, with the same medication as above. Surgery is usually general anesthesia and requires hospitalization, which normally takes about a week, and must be accompanied by medication to relieve the child’s nose after surgery.
