Simple self-test of lung function before lung resection

In our daily work, we often encounter patients’ families who come to us with their films for consultation. After reading the films, they consider it to be lung cancer and recommend to be admitted to hospital for examination and surgery if there is no abnormal lung function and no metastasis elsewhere. Many family members are worried that the patient is in his sixties or seventies, can he survive the surgery? Can the lung function meet the standard if the surgery is performed on the organ that is breathing? Is there an easy-to-use self-evaluation method to test this. Today, I will teach you a few methods to test your lung function at home, if qualified, there is no problem for lung surgery. The first is the breath-holding test, which is like our usual swimming “zap” as we take a deep breath, and then hold it, as much as possible, to see how many seconds you can hold it, the passing line is 20 seconds. If less than 20 seconds, lung surgery is not possible. Secondly, the match blowing test, in a windless indoor environment, a foot away from the mouth and nose, light a match, if you can blow out, it means that the lung function is passing. Thirdly, the stair climbing test, walking at a constant speed from the first floor to the fourth floor, if you do not gasp, it proves that the cardiopulmonary function is satisfactory, but we should take into account that some patients may not be able to go upstairs at a constant speed due to joint pain or joint lesions. Of course, the final evaluation results after hospitalization, before the surgery to perform pulmonary function to evaluate, the above recommended methods are only a few simple small tests for their own convenience application.
