And these health products basically contain anthraquinone-based laxatives. Chinese medicines such as rhubarb, senna and cassia, and western medicines such as fruit guide all contain anthraquinone ingredients.  The characteristic of this class of stimulant laxatives is that they can cause diarrhea in a short period of time after taking them. Thus, many people believe that the drug is effective in relieving constipation, not knowing that this type of drug can not be used for a long time. Long-term use of such stimulant drugs will form a dependence on the drug, even if the subsequent increase in dosage, the effect is not as good as before. In addition, long-term use of stimulant laxatives can also damage the peristaltic and secretory functions of the intestine, and once the drug is discontinued, it will not only aggravate the symptoms of constipation, but also lead to colonic melanosis (simply put, the pigment contained in many strong laxatives is deposited on the mucosa of the colon for a long time to form. Generally, the intestinal pigment can gradually disappear after stopping the drug for more than 6 months. However, if taken for a long time, the intestine will become dependent on laxatives, and long-term abuse will not only not help improve constipation, but also lead to disorders of colonic motility, which will eventually make patients unable to defecate on their own and rely on laxatives to maintain defecation function, forming a vicious circle.
