Sequelae of Sinusitis Surgery

The possible sequelae of sinusitis surgery mainly include psychosomatic symptoms, adhesion and occlusion of the operative cavity, optic nerve damage and other symptoms. 1. Psychosomatic symptoms: commonly seen in patients who recovered consciousness after craniocerebral injury caused by involving the anterior skull base, or even in patients with traumatic brain injury who have not had any consciousness disorders, which can be characterized by prolonged headache, sleep disorders, significant loss of memory, anxiety, irritability, change of character and temperament, reduction of speech, not easy to communicate, and even tendency to violence, and so on. 2. Adhesion occlusion of the operative cavity: mainly the adhesion between the middle turbinate and the lateral wall of the nasal cavity or the nasal septum, resulting in occlusion of the operative cavity. 3. Optic nerve injury: it can be divided into optic nerve ischemic injury, optic nerve indirect injury and direct injury. The first two visual impairment is temporary, manifested as gradual vision loss, diplopia or visual field loss. Direct injury or intraorbital hematoma compression can lead to injury of the internal rectus or superior oblique muscles. Patients complain of varying degrees of diplopia, and examination reveals ocular dyskinesia in various directions. There may be other sequelae after sinusitis surgery, once the postoperative maladjustment occurs timely consultation, identify the cause and targeted treatment.
