Gui Fu Lizhong Pill is composed of cinnamon, sliced epiphyllum, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, fried Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, shelled ginger and moxibustion licorice. It is used for treating kidney yang weakness, spleen and stomach coldness, epigastric coldness and pain (the stomach and the abdomen feel cold and painful), vomiting and diarrhea, and limb chills (the extremities are ice-cold, even cold to the elbows and above the knees). Adverse effects of the drug are not known. It is contraindicated for pregnant women. Sheng Wei Drink (生脉飲) is composed of red ginseng, maitake (麦冬) and schizandra (五味子), which is beneficial to vital energy, nourishes yin and promotes the production of body fluid. It is used in treating qi and yin deficiencies, palpitations and shortness of breath, and spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, aggravated by sweating upon slight movement). The adverse effects and contraindications of this drug are not clear. It should not be taken by patients with fever and cold. There is no contraindication to Gui Fu Lizhong Wan and Sheng Wei Drink and they can be taken together. If there is a need for medication, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a professional physician, not blindly self-medication.
