Liver Wood generates Heart Fire is based on the symbiotic relationship between the five elements: wood, fire, earth, gold and water. The five elements, i.e. wood, fire, earth, gold and water, are five types of material properties and their changes in movement. The five elements of the phases of life, refers to the wood, fire, earth, gold, water, the relationship between the orderly progressive capitalization of life, help and promote. The order of the five elements is wood begets fire, fire begets earth, earth begets gold, gold begets water, and water begets wood. The five elements illustrate the relationship between the five organs. Liver is wood in the Five Elements and is the lesser yang of the yin. The heart is fire in the five elements and is the sun in the yang. Wood begets fire, which means that the liver begets the heart. The functional relationship between the heart and the liver is mainly manifested in the operation of the blood and spiritual and emotional aspects. The heart is the master of the blood and promotes blood circulation, so the liver has something to hide. The liver stores blood, regulates blood volume, and prevents bleeding; the liver detoxifies, regulates qi, and promotes blood circulation, so that the heart can function normally. The two work together to maintain the normal operation of blood. The common clinical pathology of blood deficiency or blood stasis is mainly manifested in blood deficiency of the heart and liver and blood stasis of the heart and liver. The Heart is the repository of God and is responsible for mental activities; the Liver is the main detoxifier (the Liver has the function of detoxifying the qi of the whole body), and regulates the emotions and moods. Both harmonize to maintain normal mental and emotional activities. Sufficient blood in the Heart helps the Liver to regulate and excrete; Liver qi is organized and liver blood is abundant, which helps the Heart and Spirit to keep the Heart and Spirit within the body. If the two are used for each other, then the spirit will be full and the mood will be relaxed. It is common that heart and liver fires are exuberant, and heart and liver fires are related to each other, influencing each other. Liver wood and heart fire are mutually supporting each other, and are closely linked physiologically and pathologically.
