Is the umbilical artery the same as the uterine artery

The umbilical and uterine arteries are not the same. The umbilical artery is the artery that transports metabolic substances between the mother and the fetus. The uterine artery, on the other hand, is the artery that emanates from the internal iliac artery and leads to the uterus. There are two umbilical arteries in total, and the main function of the umbilical arteries is to transport waste products and carbon dioxide produced by the fetus’ metabolism to the placenta. The placenta transports these metabolites to the mother who then expels them from the body. The uterine artery is an arterial vessel that originates from the internal iliac artery of the mother. The uterine artery is subdivided into several branches supplying the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other parts of the body. Some of the terminal branches of the uterine artery are spiral arteries, which undergo a series of changes when a woman becomes pregnant and provide nutrients for the growth and development of the embryo.
