What is clinically referred to as advanced prostate cancer is actually prostate cancer with bone metastases, and for patients not receiving endocrine therapy, bone metastases do not mean that treatment is abandoned. As previously stated, endocrine therapy has a fairly good efficacy, so the significance of bone scan for advanced prostate cancer is mainly to monitor the efficacy of endocrine therapy and the presence of distant bone metastases, especially for patients with persistently elevated PSA and symptoms such as bone pain. Also, for patients with bone-related events, bone scan can be used to clarify the progression of the tumor and provide a basis for subsequent chemotherapy and palliative radiotherapy.
