How to diagnose prostate cancer early?

Rectal examination combined with PSA is currently recognized as the best primary screening method for early detection of prostate cancer. PSA has a high specificity in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. The initial suspicion of prostate cancer is usually preceded by rectal examinations or serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, followed by a decision to perform a prostate puncture biopsy (a prostate puncture biopsy can confirm the diagnosis of prostate cancer by obtaining a pathological diagnosis). In addition, the combination of transrectal prostate ultrasound may increase the detection rate of prostate tumors. Some patients with prostate tumors may present with isolated nodules in the prostate that are not detected by blood PSA or transrectal examination, but may be detected by ultrasound of the prostate, so ultrasound of the prostate should also be one of the recommended screening tests.
