Hernia, commonly known as “air egg” and scientifically known as inguinal hernia, is a common and prevalent disease in children of both sexes, more often in boys. The cause is a congenital defect or weakness in the lower part of the abdominal wall, reduced resistance and increased pressure in the abdominal cavity caused by children crying a lot. It is manifested as an inverted teardrop-like mass in the affected groin protruding toward the ipsilateral scrotum or labia majora, which becomes smaller when quiet or lying down and larger when standing, moving or crying, etc. Because most of the masses are in the small intestine, but also in the large omentum or ovaries, there is a gurgling sensation when squeezing, hence the name “hernia”. It is easy to diagnose “hernia”, but most patients and parents are afraid of surgery, mainly because they are worried that the child is too small to tolerate surgery and the effect of anesthesia on the child’s brain, and use the so-called injection of sclerosing agent or hernia to bring treatment, which may easily damage the vas deferens and spermatic cord, or strangle the buttocks, but the hernia still comes out, and finally surgery is needed. Secondly, the diagnosis is missed. When a pediatric hernia is embedded in the body, it appears to be crying, so parents ignore it or do not examine it carefully and delay the diagnosis and treatment. The treatment for “hernia” is a high ligation of the hernia sac and, if necessary, repair of the abdominal wall defect. Delayed treatment due to fear, fear of surgery or listening to various advertisements will only lead to various complications and even endanger life.
