Is Lymph Node Metastasis of Hypopharyngeal Cancer an Advanced Stage of Cancer?

Lymph node metastasis of hypopharyngeal cancer does not necessarily belong to advanced stage, if it is ipsilateral lymph node metastasis and the diameter is ≤3cm, it can be regarded as intermediate stage. Hypopharyngeal cancer mostly manifests as neck mass, difficulty or pain in swallowing, blood in saliva, ear pain, voice change, aspiration pneumonia, and more than 50% of patients will have enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. The presence of enlarged lymph nodes does not necessarily mean advanced stage, but also has a relationship with the size and location of the lymph nodes. If it is ipsilateral lymph node metastasis and the diameter is ≤3cm, it can be clinical stage III, which is intermediate stage. For middle and late stage hypopharyngeal cancer, if surgery is possible, it should be operated first and supplemented with radiotherapy and chemotherapy to consolidate the therapeutic effect after operation. Therefore, when lymph node metastasis occurs, do not give up and actively cooperate with doctors to improve the quality of survival.
