Coughing is a common respiratory symptom for all of us, and probably no one has ever gone through life without a cough. But the coughs that we usually know are mostly found in “colds”, “pneumonia”, “bronchitis”, etc. Who would have thought from the very beginning that their cough would not be cured for a long time, or that their recurrent cough after inhaling irritating gases or exercising might be bronchial asthma? Who would have thought at the outset that their cough, which has not been cured for a long time, or that their recurrent cough after inhaling irritating gases or exercising might be bronchial asthma, is indeed clinically real and is what is medically known as cough variant asthma? Most coughs can gradually improve after antibiotic treatment, but sometimes the cough does not decrease at all after treatment with multiple antibiotics and cough suppressants, and it persists. These patients often have cough variant asthma attacks and must be treated with asthma medication to relieve them. Cough variant asthma is a specific type of asthma with chronic cough as the main or only clinical manifestation. In the early stages of asthma, 5-6% of patients have a persistent cough, mostly at night or in the early morning, often irritating, which is often misdiagnosed as bronchitis. Patients with this disease often have the following clinical features: 1. Laboratory tests or other examinations usually do not reveal obvious signs of infection, or long-term antibiotic treatment is ineffective. 2. Episodes can be reduced with bronchodilators. 3. Many patients have a personal history of allergy, i.e. a history of eczema, urticaria, allergic rhinitis, etc. A significant proportion of patients can be found to have a family history of allergy. 4.Exercise, cold air, allergens or viral infections can trigger asthma attacks. 5.Asthma is seasonal, mostly seen in spring and autumn and recurrent attacks. 6, Chest X-ray shows normal or increased lung texture but no other organic changes. At this time, such patients should go to the hospital for further examination such as pulmonary function, bronchial excitation test and exercise test to confirm the diagnosis. Once the disease is diagnosed, we should give regular asthma treatment as asthma. What should we pay attention to in our daily life? The main points are as follows: 1. When the seasons change and the temperature changes suddenly, we should add clothes in time, while clothes should be dried and disinfected frequently, especially for the elderly and children, to avoid cold infection. 2. Avoid foods that cause allergic symptoms, such as crabs and shrimps. 3. Don’t keep pets and flowers at home, don’t lay carpets; avoid contact with pollen, dust mites, oil fumes, paint, etc. 4.If your child is a patient of the disease, please do not let your child sleep with long fluffy toys. 5, indoor, especially children’s bedrooms should be kept ventilated, if long-term open air conditioning families should regularly open the windows to ventilate. 6.Patients with asthma should take appropriate exercise to strengthen their immune system. The best exercise is swimming, which can enhance cardiorespiratory function and effectively exercise our respiratory muscles. Asthma is not terrible, if we can clearly diagnose and regular treatment and management according to asthma. We believe that all of us with asthma can greatly improve our quality of life.
