What does stage IV lung cancer mean?

Lung cancer is generally clinically divided into four stages: stage I and stage II patients are categorized as early stage; stage III is usually categorized as locally advanced stage; lung cancer stage IV refers to advanced stage of lung cancer. Patients with advanced stage of lung cancer generally have poor prognosis and can develop multiple metastases, including brain metastases, liver metastases and bone metastases. Patients can show cough, sputum, chest tightness, shortness of breath, pain around the body, and also low fever, weakness, emaciation and loss of appetite. A combination of palliative radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and Chinese medicine and herbal medicine can be chosen according to the condition. Alternatively, targeted or immunotherapy can be chosen according to the genetic testing and PD-L1 expression level detection.
