Whether or not a single puncture for mastitis can be done depends on the severity of the disease and the distribution of the abscess cavity.
For patients with a single pus cavity and relatively mild inflammation, a single puncture and evacuation will usually result in a gradual recovery with active anti-infective treatment.
For patients with complex distribution of pus cavities, more pus cavities and more complicated conditions, one puncture and extraction of pus from the mammary gland is often unable to completely extract pus, and even recurrent mammary abscesses may occur.
For patients with severe conditions and relatively large abscess cavities, abscess incision and drainage can also be performed for treatment.
Patients with breast abscesses caused by mastitis generally have a better prognosis after drainage of pus and active anti-infection treatment, but they need to undergo regular treatment in the hospital.
