China Charity Federation Gleevec Patient Assistance Program Introduction (Reprint)

The Gleevec Global Patient Assistance Program was officially launched in China in September 2003, with the China Charity Federation (CCF), a non-governmental charity organization, taking charge of the overall operation and coordination in China. The Gleevec Patient Assistance Program is intended for all eligible patients in China with Philadelphia chromosome-positive, chronic granulocytic leukemia in chronic, accelerated or acute phase (3 years of age or older), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (18 years of age or older); c-Kit positive, unresectable (inoperable) and/or metastatic malignant gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors (18 years of age or older) and unresectable, recurrent or metastatic aplasia. patients with recurrent or metastatic dermatofibrosarcoma (DFSP) receive Gleevec drug assistance. The program currently covers 81 countries and provides free Gleevec drugs to more than 50,000 patients with chronic granulocytic leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia and gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, making it the most generous, extensive and direct global cancer patient assistance program available today and the recipient of the 5th China Charity Award. Wei-Ming Lai, Department of Hematology, Wuhan Union Medical College Hospital
Types of assistance programs. 
1. Pre-morbid low income patients 
Patients who have been medically evaluated by designated medical centers as eligible for Gleevec indications, and who have been audited to be low-income households prior to their illness, are eligible for assistance. 
2. Non-Low Income Patients 
Gleevec drugs are not reimbursed
Assistance program: Patients who voluntarily apply to join the program will be provided with assistance for each Gleevec treatment year (12 months), and patients who are eligible for assistance will be provided with assistance for the first 3 months of Gleevec drugs at their own expense, and the next 9 months of Gleevec drugs after approval of the program.
Gleevec drugs to achieve partial reimbursement
Assistance program: 1. For patients who voluntarily apply to join the program, each Gleevec treatment year (12 months) will be used for the first 6 months of Gleevec medication at their own expense, and the next 6 months of Gleevec medication after approval of the program.           2. For patients who voluntarily apply to join the program, each Gleevec treatment year (12 months) will be used for the first 3 months of Gleevec medication at their own expense, and the next 9 months of Gleevec medication after approval of the program.
