Iodophor and red salve are two different disinfectants that should not be mixed together and their ingredients are also different. Red salve is a 2% red mercury solution with disinfection and antibacterial effects, usually used for the treatment of mild skin wounds disinfection, after use will cause pigmentation, the skin epidermis coated with red salve will turn red. Moreover, red salve cannot be used for widespread disinfection because the local release of mercury components may cause toxic reactions. In contrast, iodophor is a combination of iodine preparation pilot and water, which can directly kill bacteria, and can usually be used for disinfection of large wounds and surgical areas, as well as for disinfection of local wounds on the skin surface and subcutaneous mucosal layer, and iodophor in lower concentration is relatively very safe.
