How to give first aid to an old man who is unconscious and only breathing

If an elderly person is unconscious and only breathing, it means that he or she is in a coma, which is a serious disorder of consciousness. The patient loses consciousness, and the motor-sensory and autonomic reflexes are dysfunctional. Pay attention to keep the elderly’s airway unobstructed, send them to the hospital urgently, and improve the relevant examination.1. Keep the airway unobstructed: turn the patient’s head or body to the side to prevent the back of the tongue or the regurgitation of respiratory secretions or gastric contents into the trachea, causing asphyxia and aspiration pneumonia. If cardiac arrest occurs, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately, including chest compressions and artificial respiration; 2. Emergency medical treatment: call an emergency vehicle as soon as possible and send the patient to the hospital emergency room for treatment. After arriving at the hospital emergency room, open intravenous access as soon as possible and provide symptomatic treatment according to the patient’s condition. If there is a manifestation of shock, blood volume should be expanded rapidly, vasoactive drugs should be used to increase systolic blood pressure and ensure organ perfusion; 3. Improve relevant examinations: complete head imaging and routine blood and biochemical examinations and arterial blood gas analysis as soon as possible. Coma is only a superficial symptom, and there are many diseases that can cause coma, involving almost every organ system of the body. There may be one or more causes behind the coma symptoms, so the whole emergency plan cannot be determined by the coma symptoms alone, and the patient’s past medical history can provide certain clues, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, etc.
