The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC is a professional clinician who provides breastfeeding health care and requires the professional skills, knowledge and attitude to pass an international exam of the equivalent difficulty level of a master’s degree to independently assist mothers with breastfeeding and provide skilled professional management of breastfeeding-related issues. This license is accredited by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Certification (IBLCE) and is the only professional competency certification in breastfeeding counseling recognized by the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), the international organization of lactation consultants. In the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Korea and other countries where breastfeeding policies are well implemented, there is an average of 1 professional IBCLC for every 25,000 citizens. In the United States, hospitals with 3,000 deliveries per year have an average of 4.5 IBCLCs. On the road to promoting breastfeeding, health care professionals are the most professional and the ones who can give the most support to mothers, especially in In our Maternal and Child Health Center, almost every department is in contact with mothers-to-be and mothers, and our Breast Center is in contact with a large number of breastfeeding mothers every day, who suffer from various breast diseases and breastfeeding problems, and after investigation, we found that very few of these patients were delivered in our hospital, and most of them are mothers from outside hospitals. It is the result of the active and advanced breastfeeding concept and training. When a sick mother looks at us with pain, and asks weakly “Doctor, can I still breastfeed?” Can we just look down at the breast at this time? No, we have to look up at the mother! Deputy Director Gao Yajun said, “As a mammographer, when a mother comes to you for help, it is as important to treat her illness as it is to let her baby have milk”. Indeed, breastfeeding is not only about the child, but also about the self-confidence of women, the bond between mother and baby, and the joint growth of parents in the process. Director Gao Haifeng has always advocated “believe in mother, believe in baby, return to nature and achieve breastfeeding”. Our Breast Care Center has mapped out certain experience in our daily work, which is recognized by many patients and enjoys a certain reputation in China, but we are not satisfied with the status quo and want to see the wonderful world outside, maybe we will learn However, we were not satisfied with the status quo and wanted to see the wonderful world outside, maybe we could learn more and be better inspired, so that our work could add to it, for this reason we took the first step bravely like Carmela. In March of this year, all the medical and nursing staff of the Breast Center took the International Certified Lactation Consultant Core Course at their own expense in their spare time, and through more than ten weekends of brainstorming, they were exposed to a large amount of evidence-based international breastfeeding-related expertise and updated many ideas. We were amazed that we were “brainwashed!”. After settling down the children, they spent countless nights in study groups, reading at night, and with only English reference books (more than 2,000 pages in total), they gnawed on the bones with the spirit of ants, reviewing a large amount of literature and using dictionaries to gnaw on the books bit by bit, and finally each of them completed 15 independent research articles, which were revised repeatedly by the teachers and received the corresponding credits. The four-month preparation process was full of challenges and hardships, and the children of our medical staff were all small. Our strong group of family and friends not only gave us financial support, but also gave us enough moral encouragement and life help, taking care of the children and managing the household chores. The most valuable thing is that during this extraordinary learning journey, we all felt unity, sharing, love and persistence! The hard work will be rewarded, and changes have already happened: when we go out to the clinic, we no longer just look down at the breast without looking at people, but look at mothers’ eyes and convey our love and encouragement to them; we no longer directly interrupt mothers’ confessions, but take the initiative to ask mothers’ breastfeeding situation and guide the basic methods of breastfeeding; we no longer disdain mothers’ questions with their little books, but answer them patiently one by one; we newly We have added a breastfeeding clinic, inviting mothers with problems to bring their babies along to find out the problems and solve them; the number of mothers giving birth from high-end private hospitals is increasing day by day ….. With so many changes, we soon received positive feedback from mothers and we once again experienced a sense of accomplishment, recognition, and professional responsibility that we haven’t experienced in a long time. The time we give to each patient is limited, but we are willing to explain as much as we can to the moms, or remind her or encourage her in the limited time we have. We all know how important the doctor’s words, “It is okay to feed and encouraged to feed until two weeks of age or longer,” are to the mother. It’s a hard but meaningful step from treatment to prevention. This year, four IBCLCs were born at Haidian Maternal and Child Health, filling a gap in our hospital in this area, and we believe our team will grow even more next year. As IBCLCs, we will continue to maintain a refined learning attitude and adhere to the IBCLC practice guidelines in the future to provide more professional and caring support to mothers and babies in need of help. The IBCLC team will become more international and professional, and Baby Friendly Hospital, too, truly needs such a baby and mother loving heart. With a congratulatory message from our teachers: We are very happy for the participants. At the same time, we are deeply aware that passing the exam is not a requirement or a goal of the trainees for the nursing staff. Rather, it is the real ability to help mothers and babies in their daily work and to promote breastfeeding. What we teach is not just knowledge, but a way of learning, an ability that allows for continuous growth. Some of our students have become excellent instructors and are active in the field of breastfeeding in China. Nurture expresses its gratitude to all those who passed and those who didn’t. We believe that we have gained more than just achievements during this time of companionship. There is the knowledge, the challenge to yourself, and the gratitude from your mother when you practice this knowledge in your work. No test can show that you are good or not good. Promoting breastfeeding in the history of breastfeeding in China is our life’s work. The number of mothers helped does not prove excellence either, even if you help a mother and baby pair, the lifetime of both is different because of you. I am touched by the thirst for knowledge, the pursuit of professionalism, the care for patients and the dedication of the entire medical staff to the department. Our team is a learning team, a motivated team, a loving and dedicated team, and I am proud of all of you! I believe that with our joint efforts with mothers and families, we can do a better job of protecting, supporting and promoting breastfeeding!
