Liposarcoma and lipoma are often different in the following ways: (1) Different in nature. Liposarcoma is a malignant lesion that is prone to distant metastasis and recurrence, whereas lipoma is a benign lesion that generally does not have recurrence or metastatic features. (2) Different rates of progression. Liposarcoma generally grows faster and is often associated with local pain and discomfort, while lipoma grows slower and is generally free of local discomfort. (3) Treatment differs in that liposarcoma requires adjuvant radiotherapy in addition to radical surgery, while lipomas are usually cured after excision under local anaesthesia.
